Volunteer with us

Volunteering with the market is a great way to get to know our producers and our shoppers, to make friends and have a great time while contributing to the Bendigo community.
On market day you could be:

  • Setting up the information and cooking demonstration area
  • Collecting raffle ticket prizes from the producers
  • Selling raffle tickets
  • Answering shoppers’ questions about the market
  • Assisting the cooking demonstrators and handing out tastings
  • Drawing the raffle and calling raffle winners to inform them of their win
  • Assisting with any issues that may arise
  • Packing up the information and cooking demonstration area

Market day volunteers are entitled to a free coffee and a free meal from the Community BBQ.

On the committee you could be:

  • Attending monthly meetings to assist with the smooth running of the market (side note: the BCFM management committee has a track record of being extraordinarily effective and efficient; it’s a pleasure to be a part of it)
  • Hosting a meeting at your place (participants bring food to share)
  • Holding an office, like Secretary, Treasurer, President or Vice President
  • Carrying out a task you have volunteered to do for us – this could be almost anything!

Community BBQ

The delicious sausages sold at the BCFM Community BBQ Stall come directly from the producers at the market, and provide an opportunity for not-for-profit community groups, charities, schools and kindergartens to fundraise for and raise awareness of their cause, whilst supporting local producers.

  • We recommend 4 volunteers be present at all times, dressed appropriately – with aprons, covered footwear, and long sleeves for those operating the BBQ
  • Volunteers must arrive no later than 8am – to set up in time for breakfast customers
  • BYO all BBQ utensils, oil and cleaning provisions (a checklist will be provided to you beforehand). Please leave the BBQ as you found it.
  • The standard rolls order is 100 rolls
  • The sourdough rolls order must be placed with The Good Loaf Bakery (Ph 5444 2171) no later than the Thursday prior to the market. Pick up on the Friday afternoon prior to the market at 404 Hargreaves Street, Bendigo.
  • Groups are welcome to bring information, signage and small props to advertise their cause.
  • You will need to bring a container to act as a till and some change to act as a float (some notes, $1 coins and 50c pieces).
  • There will be one 3 x 3m marquee (already erected) with two trestle tables, a large 6 burner BBQ, full gas bottle and a Price List/Menu sign.
  • We will introduce you to our producers from Olive Branch Preserves (Amanda), Three Rivers Lamb (Stuart), Warialda Belted Galloway Beef (Allan), Camboer Goat (Ian), and McIvor Farm Pork (Jason) to purchase the relish and sausages. As a guide, over 200 sausages are usually sold. Producers can usually provide more if required. The BCFM orders the sausages and relish on your behalf prior to the market.

No. Only BCFM sausages may be sold at the Community BBQ Stall.

No, the only fundraising allowed on the Community BBQ stall is to sell the sausages
provided. However, promotional material may be given away.

The cost for running the stall is 10% of your group’s net profit. This is payable to the market manager at the end of the day.

The current selling price for a sausage with relish is $4 (in bread) or $4.50 (in a roll).

Please note: Prices are set by the BCFM, and are subject to change at the BCFM Committee’s discretion.

To register your interest, please send an email to manager@bcfm.org.au. If there are any further questions please contact the Market Manager on ph 0498 186 491.

BCFM Raffle

The BCFM raffle is a way for the market to help cover the costs of running the market and, at times, to help support our community in different ways.

The three prizes of the BCFM raffle each consist of a hamper of wonderful goodies donated by our market producers (please supply your own box or bag in which to take it home – or borrow a Boomerang Bag if you haven’t any).

Ticket prices are $2 or three for $5. Producers who have contributed to the raffle prize also get a ticket. (We love it when one of our producers win the raffle!)

The raffle is drawn just after midday on market day; winners are notified by phone and have until 1 pm to collect their prizes.

Community Stage

The BCFM Community Stage is where local chefs and market producers have a chance to demonstrate how to cook market produce, talk about their produce and give away tastings.

Keep an eye on our newsletter and social media streams to find out who’s doing what, when.
